Taking Back for the Giving Tree

I hate Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree." When Silverstein says it's a tale of unconditional love, he's really gaslighting us. It's nothing more than the story of a selfish boy who becomes a selfish man. He's shameless, a psychopath, enabled by the Giving Tree...and potentially a greater symbol of man's collective sacking of the Earth's natural resources.
